Farmer shows outstanding will to live by amputating own leg with pocketknife

Kaser, who was released from the rehabilitation center on Friday, replayed the whole harrowing ordeal for the ABC affiliate. He said he first got into the situation due to a split-second mistake while he was moving corn.
"Stepped into the hopper in the little hole. It just sucked my leg in and I was trying to pull it out, but it kept pulling," he said.

"He pretty much told me, his goal was, 'I need to get home and get back to what I was doing before,' and his main goal was farming," Willey told KETV.

It appears he cut loose at mid-shin, so a prosthetic would make him about 95% normal I think. I've operated light and heavy machinery while in a leg cast so, he'll get by okay. If he doesn't work, he's probably facing bankruptcy, so that's not an option.

If we can't help eating meat, relatively graceful degradation of the situation could involve supplying meat processing plants with human carcasses. At which point peeks the question of how missing limbs would impact the value of a carcass.
