Trump pardons Army Ranger convicted for murdering Iraqi civilian

Because, why not? I mean, it's just a civilian, that's what we call a collateral damage. War is like this, so why should we sentence those murders? What should they have done? It could have happened to them as well if the civilian was only a civilian in disguise, immediately exploding him- or herself, and so, this soldier would've died instead. So, you'd better murder the civilian before the civilian murders you, right? This is how it goes, war always causes innocent deaths, we cannot prevent it.
(This was meant to be sarcasm, though. You cannot pardon murderers just because they wear a uniform. But what do you expect from the man who grants a golf player the highest decoration of your country, because he is befriended with you? He's a narcissist who digs upon the support of the simple-minded.)
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders wrote in a statement that upon his release from jail in 2014, "Dozens of Patriot Guard motorcycle riders met Mr. Behenna to escort him back to his home in Oklahoma." She added that "Behenna's case has attracted broad support from the military, Oklahoma elected officials, and the public" and he was a "model prisoner."

"Although this is a time of great joy for my family, we as a country must never forget Adam Kohlhaas and Steven Christofferson and all those who gave their lives in service of this great nation," Behenna said, referring to his comrades killed during combat. "They represent the finest of our society, and their families will forever be in our thoughts and prayers."

It's hard to say for sure without knowing him personally, but Oaklohoma is predominantly the Prosperity Gospel type of Evangelical Christians. A crusader mentality is more likely based on the origin of the pardoned person. Theirs a lot of thinking in that south-central part of the USA that would help him self-justify murder 1 as a lofty patriotic act sanctioned by God.

Probably why dozens of his buddies of the Patriot Guard motorcycle riders thougth he deserved an ritual escort back home as he was victorious against the d-evil...
